Station #5: Jesus Dies on the Cross

Read: Luke 23:44-46

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Let no one caught in sin remain
Inside the lie of inward shame
We fix our eyes upon the cross
And run to him who showed great love
And bled for us
Freely You bled, for us

Jesus tells us, “whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” (Matthew 16:35)

What are the areas in your life that you need to offer to God? Where do you need to die to self in order to find Christ—to find new life? What part of your life would you like Christ to bring new life to? (Consider, for instance, relationships, character, health, circumstance, and such things in your life.)

Pray for the transforming work of Christ in that specific place in your life.

Pray: My God, my God, how awesome it is to stand at the foot of the cross. Saying “yes” to You is essential to being Your follower. I believe this, but please help me to say it and mean it. I ask this through Christ my Lord. Amen.
