Station #3: Simon of Cyrene Helps Jesus Carry His Cross

Read: Mark 15:21

A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross.

God calls each of us to love our neighbor, to help those in need, and to look out for the “least of these.”

Matthew 25:35-36

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

Take a moment to reflect on these verses. Who has helped you on your journey? Write their name(s) down and spend some time thanking God for them. Who can you offer a helping hand to during this Covid season? Perhaps a friend, colleague, family member, or helping those in need through one of the church’s ministry partners. Write a name or an idea of how you can help someone carry their cross.

Pray: God, my Rock, my Deliverer, thank You for the example of Simon of Cyrene and for the gift of Your Son Jesus who helps me carry my burdens. Teach me to walk alongside Jesus and take His yoke upon my shoulders so that, with His help, I can carry my burdens and help others carry theirs. I ask this through Christ my Lord. Amen.
