YOUTH – Summer 2020 – UPDATE

Welcome to Spectrum Youth!

Spectrum So Far…

SPECTRUM IS a community of secondary school and college students from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Our volunteers are God-fearing, faithful, compassionate, self-aware professionals, also from different walks of life, who help navigate our youth to seek Gods’ purpose for their lives.

Together, we learn about:

  • Why the Bible is still relevant today
  • What it says about the different situations we go through
  • How to follow Jesus’ example and share what we’ve learned with our family, friends at school, online, on the field, court or in the pool.

To create a safe and creative space where youth can connect together through friendship, fun, fellowship, faith (formation) and food whilst experiencing God’s love and relevance in their lives.

To encourage the youth of Community Church Hong Kong to develop a relationship with the God of love to give them the confidence to face life with hope.

UPDATE – As of Thursday 30th July

Hi Parentals, this is a quick but important update of what’s on for the next 2 weeks.

The clear and consistent message is: God says we are to obey our parents and the authorities. We love our neighbours by being respectful and obedient to ensure our city can heal and recover.

Being patient and reorganising activities is better than contracting and recovering from covid.

All planned in person activities are cancelled until further notice (UFN)

So here’s the alternative plan for Spectrum for the next 2 weeks:

  • Mid-Week Mingle Wednesday night 6pm onwards: Zoom games and prayer time
  • Friday night 6pm onwards:  Fun, fellowship and devotional
  • Sunday: Church online: 9:30am and 11:30am YouTube Channel Community Church Hong Kong YouTube Channel
  • Sunday 1:30pm – 3:30pm : God Behaving Badly book study (Seniors and Young Adults): Zoom

(All are welcome to log on and participate in Spectrum Zoom and church online)

Links are in the group description (of the WhatsApp chats) for quick and easy access.

For more info and any questions, feel free to email Grace (, or call her on 5912-3880.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and resilience. Please let me know how I can support you during this time too.

Let’s continue to remain connected to each other and our Lord, who sits sovereign and mighty on the throne. Praying with you and for you.

It’s the first time in 23 years, all our youth (junior, middle and high schoolers) and young adults (College/uni students, graduates) will be in HK together for the summer.

Overwhelming? Maybe. Exciting? Definitely! Am I ready? YES!

During my 6 years in HK, I have remained in HK over the summer, so am comfortable with the rhythm the city brings during this season, however, I am fully aware and prepared this year will be different.  The scriptures below are what’s motivating the cautious but hopeful “planning.”

James 4:14 – “Why, you don’t even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “if it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

Proverbs 16:3 – “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”

One thing is certain: I will trust in the Lord’s Word, guidance, wisdom and the Holy Spirits’ prompting.

These are crucial times, not only for recreation and fellowship in our community and youth, but for growth to challenge our young people to dig deeper into what God wants for them and how obedient and faithful we will be as we daily cling to and seek Him.

Here is the calendar for what is “planned” during July and August.

Download (DOCX, 22KB)

Kindly note:

  • All Friday nights and Sunday activities are at CCHK, but limit groups to 8 people.
  • All Spectrum activities in JULY will run from TUES to FRI 2pm onwards with the same limitation on group size.
  • God Behaving Badly –
  • There are some blank spaces to ensure I’m available and can prioritise our young people for drop-ins and impromptu catch ups.
  • Any changes will be posted on the parents and youth chat the morning of the planned activity.

If any activities need to be cancelled for health and safety reasons, notification will be sent the morning of the activity.

Please let me know how I can best serve you, your family and continue to come alongside you during this season. My prayer is that this summer will be one to remember for all the right reasons.

Pray that I may proclaim it as clearly as I should. Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
