Reverend Alex Awad was born in Jerusalem in 1946. Two years later, his father was innocently killed in the first Arab-Israel War. The family became refugees and fled to the eastern side of Jerusalem, whereas Alex and his brothers attended St. George’s School of the Anglican Church. After graduation, he sought theological education in Europe and the United States. He completed undergraduate work at Lee University, and received graduate degrees from North Georgia College and Asbury Theological Seminary. He and his wife Brenda eventually returned and served in Israel and in Palestine under the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, acting as the Dean of Students at Bethlehem Bible College and pastor of the international East Jerusalem Baptist Church until retirement in June, 2015. They currently live in Eugene, Oregon and travel around the States and the world to share his passion for peace and justice for the people of Israel and Palestine. The Awads have three children: Christy, Basem and Randy.
